Volunteer Requirements

• Youth Protection Training (YPT): Each family must have at least one parent or guardian complete the BSA Youth Protection Training (a 72-minute online course) and volunteer with the Troop. A copy of the certificate must be emailed to the Troop Committee Chair, Graceann Bisig, at thebisigs@gmail.com.
• Meeting Volunteers: To ensure Scout safety and meet Youth Protection guidelines, additional parent attendance at Troop meetings is required. Each Scout family must sign up to volunteer at one meeting through the end of the year. Families who do not sign up will be randomly assigned a meeting. Volunteers can sign up here.

Merit Badge Counselors Needed

Achieving the rank of Eagle requires Scouts to earn 21 merit badges, including 14 Eagle-required badges. To support advancement, we need additional Merit Badge Counselors (MBC) for these Eagle-required badges:

• Citizenship in the Community
• Citizenship in the Nation
• Citizenship in the World
• Communication
• Cooking
• Personal Fitness
• Personal Management
• Family Life

MBCs meet with Scouts, typically via Zoom, and must complete the BSA Merit Badge Counselor Training (30 minutes), as well as YPT.More information about becoming an MBC can be found here.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

• Boards of Review: Parents are needed to serve on Boards of Review. No previous scouting experience is required.
• Troop Committee Membership: The Troop Committee meets once a month via Zoom to discuss finances, upcoming events, fundraising efforts, and other Troop matters.

Important Note

Volunteering with the Troop is mandatory. Families that do not have an adult complete YPT training and fulfill volunteer requirements will not be eligible to register in the fall. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation and for helping make Troop 17 a great experience for our Scouts.
